Dill Pickle Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles, finely chopped (plus extra for garnish, if desired)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle juice
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried dill)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients:

    • In another bowl, combine the chopped dill pickles, dill pickle juice, egg, and vegetable oil (or melted butter). Mix well.
  4. Combine Mixtures:

    • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. If you’re adding cheese and fresh dill, fold them in gently.
  5. Transfer to Loaf Pan:

    • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. If desired, you can place additional dill pickle slices on top for garnish.
  6. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool:

    • Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve:

    • Slice and enjoy your Dill Pickle Bread! It’s great on its own, toasted with butter, or used for sandwiches.

Tips:

  • Storage: Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can also be frozen for longer storage.
  • Variations: Feel free to experiment with different cheeses or herbs to customize the flavor to your liking.
  • Serving Suggestions: This bread pairs well with soups, salads, or as a side for grilled meats.

Enjoy your Dill Pickle Bread! It’s a fun and tasty way to incorporate the flavors of dill pickles into a delicious homemade bread!
