Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt (optional, to balance sweetness)

Instructions

1. Beat the Cream Cheese and Butter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.

2. Add the Powdered Sugar:

  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed until combined. Once all the sugar is added, increase the speed to medium and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

3. Add Vanilla and Salt:

  • Mix in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt (if using). Beat for an additional minute until well combined.

4. Adjust Consistency:

  • If the frosting is too thick, you can add a tablespoon of milk or cream to reach your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, add a little more powdered sugar.

5. Use or Store:

  • Use the cream cheese frosting immediately to frost your cakes or cupcakes. If you’re not using it right away, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Before using, let it come to room temperature and re-whip if necessary.
