Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom soup)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch dressing mix (or homemade ranch seasoning)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides. Place them in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make the Sauce:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, cream of chicken soup, and ranch dressing mix. Mix until well combined.
  4. Coat the Chicken:

    • Pour the creamy sauce over the chicken breasts, ensuring they are well coated. If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the sauce.
  5. Add Breadcrumbs (Optional):

    • In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the chicken and sauce for added texture.
  6. Bake:

    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C) and the top is golden brown.
  7. Serve:

    • Once done, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives if desired. Serve hot with your choice of sides.

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the dish in advance and refrigerate it before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
