Here’s a delightful recipe for a Fluffy Chocolate Mousse that is rich, creamy, and perfect for any chocolate lover. This mousse is light and airy, making it a wonderful dessert for special occasions or a simple treat at home.

Fluffy Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounces (170g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Melt the Chocolate:

    • In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped chocolate and butter. Melt them together over a double boiler or in the microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.
  2. Whip the Egg Yolks:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with half of the granulated sugar (2 tablespoons) and the vanilla extract until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened.
  3. Combine Chocolate and Egg Yolks:

    • Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg yolk mixture, stirring until well combined.
  4. Whip the Egg Whites:

    • In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining sugar (2 tablespoons) and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Whip the Cream:

    • In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  6. Fold Ingredients Together:

    • Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions, being careful not to deflate the mixture.
    • Then, fold in the whipped cream until no streaks remain. The mixture should be light and fluffy.
  7. Chill:

    • Spoon the mousse into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
  8. Serve:

    • Serve the mousse chilled, garnished with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries if desired.

Tips:

  • Chocolate Quality: Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. Dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) will give a richer taste.
  • Egg Safety: If you’re concerned about using raw eggs, you can use pasteurized eggs or look for a recipe that uses a different method for the mousse.
  • Variations: You can add a splash of coffee liqueur or orange liqueur to the chocolate mixture for an extra flavor boost.

Enjoy your fluffy chocolate mousse! It’s a decadent treat that is sure to impress.
