Caramel Pear Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Pie Crust:
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3-4 tablespoons ice water
For the Filling:
  • 4-5 medium ripe pears (such as Bartlett or Bosc), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
For Topping (optional):
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Instructions:

Make the Pie Crust:

  1. Prepare the Crust: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the chilled, cubed butter and mix with a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Add Ice Water: Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. You may not need all the water.

  3. Chill the Dough: Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling:

  1. Cook the Caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and butter. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is bubbling. Carefully add the heavy cream and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Let it cool slightly.

  2. Prepare the Pears: In a large bowl, toss the sliced pears with lemon juice and cornstarch (if using). Pour the caramel sauce over the pears and mix gently to coat.

Assemble the Pie:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Roll Out the Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the chilled pie dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the rolled-out dough into the pie pan and trim any excess.

  3. Fill the Pie: Pour the caramel-coated pear mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

  4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the pears are tender and the crust is golden brown. If the edges of the crust brown too quickly, cover them with foil.

  5. Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy!

This Caramel Pear Pie is a deliciously sweet and comforting dessert that highlights the flavors of fresh pears and rich caramel. Enjoy every bite!
